    EBEC 2016
    European Bioenergetics Conference
EBEC is a biannual series that was started by the late Assunta Baccarini-Melandri and by B. Andrea Melandri in Urbino (Italy) in 1980. It became a major event in International Bioenergetics and a meeting point for Scientists from all over the world. The Mitchell Medal was established in 1994 to honor the memory of Peter Mitchell (Nobel Prize, 1978) and 2 of its 12 recipients were subsequently awarded a Nobel Prize, a fact that testifies the standards of our Community. As usual, the quality of the Nominees of the 2016 Medal was so high that a word of acknowledgment for their hard work also goes to the Panel, chaired by P. Leslie Dutton and composed by Peter Brzezinski, Robert B. Gennis, Carola Hunte, Wolfgang Junge, H. Ronald Kaback, Amandine Marechal, Harmut Michel, David G. Nicholls, Dieter Oesterhelt, Eduardo Rial, László Tretter, John E. Walker, Mårten Wikström, Masasuke Yoshida and Paolo Bernardi.

Mitochondria: balancing health and disease June 2016
The Abcam mitochondrial themed symposia series is held annually at the University College of London, UK. These one day meetings provide opportunities for researchers studying mitochondria, to get together and present their work to colleagues and fellow scientists, in a relaxed and friendly environment.

The fifth meeting of the series will explore emerging biological and translational aspects of research in mitochondrial genetics and quality control, cellular dynamics of the mitochondrial network and mitochondrial determinants of cell fate.
